I probably did less to this tune than any of the others because it was one of the better mixes. Because it's the album opener and a bit of an earworm it's more familiar to more people than any other tune, so I decided not to change the drums, which aren't that bad anyway - I figured it might be too disconcerting.
We did this live every single time we played - and if we had a few fans in the house we'd get the "High, high, high, like a spaceman!" chorus going. Good fun. I did the same thing at my solo gig earlier in the year. One of my finest pop moments as a songwriter, if I say so myself...

I did this mix a couple of weeks back so I'm not looking at the track list, but I'm reasonably confident that R is only represented here as the harmony - all guitars, bass, drums, synths and samples are me. But it's the harmonies that make it.
We were rehearsing one night, and just chatting between songs, and I don't remember what brought it up, but R told me a story of how when he was 8 years' old he had a bet with some friends that by the time he was 21 there would be jet packs and laser guns, so I pretty much stole his story, added my own elements and put it to music. All our songs are 50/50 in songwriting credits, even though they were all written individually, so I'm OK with the theft.
So in terms of what I did to it - sharpened up the bass, as usual, made the drums a bit more present, and just some general EQing and tidying up. Not a lot, in the scheme of things...
Instead of the autogenerated YouTube from CDBaby, I'll include the one I did myself. Not sure the sound is that great though. What a PITA this was as a video... it's all over the shop really, but what the hell...
