Pedal that sounds like a cranked JCM800?

Post by JD01 »

OK, this seems to be the holy grail of pedal tones and people have been claiming that pedals can do this - probably as long as Lt. Bob can remember!

But, that crazy Swedish bloke that reviews all the Marshalls being cranked says he's found one that he thinks is really good, and this one does sound really good:

He's probably playing it at crazy volume through a great cab and I bet it's out of the price range for people who think it'll turn their Line 6 spider into a roaring stack. But, if you've already got a half decent rig, but a rig that's really un-Marshall, this could be a great option to get that tone.

It's not a bad sounding pedal. I still prefer my AMT VT2 pedal which gets similar tones but is much more versatile.

That does sound good...I'd never heard of that manufacturer before, but after a quick search for 'em, they make a plexi version too...

Here's another demo of that pedal...pretty damn good sounding.
I guess you have to pre-order them...and they come out of Venezuela.

Okay now this one sounds much less JCM 800-ish. The Swedish guy did it better.

But as an unintentional benefit, maybe for some people, in this demo the pedal does sound a bit like the Jubilee. Dark, thick, Jubilee! I'm not particularly fond of Jubilees but a lot of people like them.

Could just be the way the EQ on the pedal is said, 3 band +a presence is plenty to dial it. Its basically a preamp isn't it.

All an 800 has is 3 EQ and a presence.

My point is I think the Swedish guy sounds better because he's blaring that pedal through a big loud tube amp. Run that pedal through a rinky dink practice amp and it just sounds like another "distortion" pedal. Let's be real - that's all it is. There are no tubes in there.
