What’s your B when you A/B your mixes?
Mine is a sound bar and a portable Bluetooth speaker. I figure lots of people listen on Bluetooth speakers these days so it’d be good to use that.

Headphones, usually.

I go between my Yamaha HS80M with an HS8S sub, and my Adam A7X. The ProCo Switch Witch has made the switching nice and easy, I love this thing.
The Yamahas have a smooth top end and a crap ton of bass, while the Adams have a very articulate top end and not much bass. They work well together. I think I've been doing a slightly better job of reading the low end of my mixes lately. But I still tend to crank up the bass too much.

I have my sub turned high so I don’t overdo the bass. My last couple of mixes where I didn’t use my sub the bass is too high. But yeah, isn’t a monitor switching system just super nice?Tadpui wrote: ↑Tue May 12, 2020 3:25 pm I go between my Yamaha HS80M with an HS8S sub, and my Adam A7X. Re: What’s your B when you A/B your mixes?
I just have consumer grade home stereo speakers as monitors. When mixing, I bounce back and forth between those and my tracking phones. If I can get a compromise that sounds decent on both, it usually translates ok elsewhere.
When I'm done and have burned a disc, I play it in the living room stereo through slightly better consumer grade stereo speakers. Normally no surprises by that stage.

If A is monitors, then B for me is headphones. C is the car. D is earbuds. When it sounds fine on all that, it's done.

A - monitors,
B - headphones,
C- downstairs stereo (NAD amp & AR4x speakers),
D- play back on my portable digital player & Good head phones,
E- Playback on upstairs computer with Sennheiser &
F - if the wife's not home I use the living room stereo.h/phones I don't have a car so that good option isn't doable.
In between all of those This Place is an important reference for me due to tinnitus & some hearing loss making my own listening less than reliable.

Surely you can finish the alphabet, Ray.
My monitors are still fucked..
However, I normally flip between my monitors and AKG reference cans.
When I think its "done" I'll DL a nearly final mix to my phone so I can listen on the downstairs stereo, in the car, other headphones etc.

You've experienced the length & iterations of one of my projects: I could probably include a reel deck, wax cylinder and string between to cans before getting finished.
Cheers
