The OTHER impossible to play song takes a leap forward.
Hello Folks,
the version done of Nah, Not At All, (MarchRiff), have been fun and excellent.
The song that JB did play on and then used to support his claim that my stuff was unplayable has taken a major step forward with Bubba having a crack at it and proving it can be done, and done with style.
This is back to a vocal by me, ever so slightly improved, along with Bubba's intro, solo & flourishes here n there.
The mix is slightly tweaked to accommodate the parts in the choruses.
Thanks Bubba. All comments, suggestions and ideas gratefully received.
I've read and tied all suggestions.
New 12string rhythm track on left as suggested. Thinned out the mix a little to make room for a good vocal.
Reverb added to the leads (2G) as suggested by Bubba.
I ditched a couple of 12 string tracks that were filling out prior to the verse licks being recorded so things may sound sharper and clearer now.
12 string rhythm on the left and 6 string rhythm on the right.

Re: The OTHER impossible to play song takes a leap forward.
At first I was wondering why it sounded all muffled and crappy. Then I noticed that I had my headphones over my hood...
1 sec starting over
Instruments sound well-balanced. Vox are pretty buried.
The leads are a little to the right when the vocals are going, right? I might put something opposite them to balance the mix a touch. Their level is good to not step on vox tho.

Vocals are totally buried. I can't make out any of it. The added guitar bits sound good, but they too seem a little buried.

Cheers, Greg_L . I think if you have Ray mixing his own vocals, then buried is what you're going to get, lol. I agree that the guitars could come up but with the vox at the level that they are, then the guitars are really going to step all over them.
Over to you, Ray.

rayc I am hearing what most are others are hearing. The little leads and stuff seem to be sitting to the back of the mix. And vox need a bit of meat to bring them a bit more to the front. Cool song.
good jorbs Bubba and ray!

Re: The OTHER impossible to play song takes a leap forward.
Cheers folks,
As it's a guide vocal I haven't set them at a decent level...it is my voice after all and therefore needs replacing.
The lead bits - yeah, they are relative to the vocal .
I was looking for informed comment about the lead bit and now have some.
THANKS.

drums and bass sound good.
Guitar licks and fills sound good too.
I'm not a big fan of the jangle guitars. They're a little muddy or cloudy or whatever. They don't shimmer like I think they should. I like the part and I like having them double tracked. They're not tightly double tracked and they kind of bounce back and forth across the speakers. It's a little distracting on headphones.

Thanks Steve. I may reinstate and pop onto the left one of the arpeggio 12 string tracks to balance the verse lead.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon May 04, 2020 12:28 pm At first I was wondering why it sounded all muffled and crappy. Then I noticed that I had my headphones over my hood...

Thanks Greg,
I've added more more vocal level and more level on that verse guitar too amongst other things.

If you're referring to the 12 string figure in the chorus - they were both on the same side..if you mean the rhythm guitars the 12s are on the left and a Squire Mustang on the right - not meant to be double tracked by I get what you mean. Does it sound clearer now?

I like the jangle tone much better. Still don't like them ping-ponging across the speakers. But that's just me.

Just listened to the version with Trudy. Jeebus that's painful. Just tuneless (actually, jarringly awful note choices).
It's a no from me, Ray.

I don't disagree Bubba.
It does, however, sound MUCH better with your guitar work that the previous. It also makes more sense with V2 & C2 chopped out and replaced.
I did that cut n paste to make a point to the singer that the structure she ignored was far better that the one she adopted.
Since I'd gone to the bother I posted it.
I tidied up some notes but technology and my brain can only go so far.
The song is safe

Sounds much better, guitar-wise.
So just after I suggested that we all take a crack at leads on the other song, my computer started fucking with me. I'm having trouble recording or even playing back tracks without Logic crashing. So I'm about to join the Reaper club (am I the only person on here that doesn't already use it?) and see if that makes any difference before I plunge into building a new PC.
