Alright, back to the rock opera. New orignal "Wrath"

Post by vomitHatSteve »

Hello, good people! I'm in the middle of working on my magnum opus rock opera and am starting to get into the really convoluted songs now.
So, as always, some mix feedback is welcome!
Wrath - Regdar and the Fighters

Thank you!

New mix, same link.

More bass, more bgvox, more guits ducking the vox, more shenanigans with snares.

VHS,
the relative levels seem good. More kick drum would be nice and a little more bass.
Cheers

I think the bass is too low in this particularly during the first verse.
Holy shit, some of those vocal lines are high. Maybe keep them but you could do with putting a lower octave in there too!
Generally your vocals aren't as good as normal on this - your pitch is wavering a bit in places, they were excellent on your last track. Are you past doing any tracking on this and just want to mix it?

When I first wrote this in high school, the highest note was some two steps higher, and I could actually hit it. :(

There's still some tracking to do. I'll be having a soprano doing those verse for the album version.
I've got an octave under those too, but it may be quieter than everything else.

More bass and kick, noted.

Thanks!

Mix 3 at the same link

More bass. Tweaked the kick chain and turned it up.
Bonus random noises.

Haven't had a chance to retrack any vox yet.

Hey VHS - more regdar strangeness (in a good way) :lollers:.

Can't comment on the mix as I'm just listening on the laptop speakers (mix 3) - sounds all in place to me, maybe a bit too snarey, but I tend to bury snares more than the rest of the guys around here, so you can probably ignore that.

Good to hear this sort of stuff - you're definitely an original!

Listening on my reference cans now, Steve.

There's a really loud click right as the song starts! Right side.
Your guitar sound is so weird - I think you'd benefit from brightening it up a bit, but you like the dark fuzzyness.

I think the level of your snare is good but its a bit too clicky (even for you!) would benefit from sounding bigger and more natural.
Odd thing just happened, there was this weird building rumble in my right can - sounded cool - but it was my mrs with the hoover!

Yeah, the click on the right is a shattering pane of glass. The initial crash lacked oomph, so I added some stuff.

What model of Hoover? I can probably throw it in! :D

Still mulling over what to do with the clicky snare. It's the EZD "Claustrophobic" kit, which plot-wise seems like a good idea for where we are plot-wise, but I'm not sure if it's really conveying that idea.

Ok, I've put up a new mix.

Narrowed the first verse to create a sense of claustrophobia.
Added some 'verb to the snare to increase body and reduce click.
Tweaked synth tones.

Probably shouldn't have scheduled a dentist appointment today if I wanted to retrack any of these vox...

LOL - that might suit your weird music! If you could keep your pitch right, the sound of you dribbling with numb lips and a fat tongue could be the icing on the cake!

Hi, Steve. I like the song but the drum and bass track is seriously lacking in richness in the low end. The mix has a garagey, lo-fi sound to it. It that what you're after?

Mix 4 MP3...
The claustrophobic sense is in the 1st verse...tick.
The drums still seem to be boxy snare and some kit behind it.
Cheers

Thanks, guys.

So I'm messing with a little post-mastering on it now to see if that levels things out a little.

It's certainly louder...
