I was actually purposely trying to do a flam. Kick-Snare Flam is a standard move in the JD drumming repertoire.
Got Yourself

Re: Got Yourself
Cool - I should get an hour to bounce them out later this atfernoon which should still be morning your time.
Re: Got Yourself
Update - I guess today is going to be dead at work too so I'm up at 6am for no reason and free all day to work on that tuning (except for house chores once the daughter is awake). I'm working from home on this project.
People want something for nothing, they want it right now. Either they can't tell quality or don't care but feel it is important that everyone agrees with them.
Re: Got Yourself
OK, that's cool. Just speaking as a drummer, and injecting my personal take on it, I wouldn't do a flam there. But that's just me. Doesn't mean one doesn't belong there, I just don't find it to be a place I would do a flam. I would do that as a regular beat.
Anyway, if you're going to flam, they probably need to be separated a bit more.

Re: Got Yourself
Yeah - I'm not much of a drummer. I haven't owned a kit for a good few years now and I've only ever been the most basic sort of limited drummer anyway.rammer24 wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2017 11:03 amOK, that's cool. Re: Got Yourself
If that's you drumming, your drumming is fine. It's good, actually.

Re: Got Yourself
The drum programming is good. Sounds convincing. Nothing wrong with it, other than that little flam issue we were talking about, and that's a personal preference issue.

Re: Got Yourself
I've listened to all the mixes, and Mix 5 is really getting close. I do think the vocal could still use a little more ambience of some type, but more importantly I agree with those who said that her performance lacks energy. Maybe the rest of the track lacks it as well, like Bubba said, but it's hard for me to judge that because to me the vocal just kind of drags the whole thing down. I think that whatever you did to improve her pitch since the first mix is pretty good. It's just too bad there's not a plugin called "Caffeine" or "Cocaine" to add energy to a performance. Great song and guitars, it just needs some more life.
Re: Got Yourself
Or a plugin called "Talent". I didn't want to say anything before but she is a terrible singer.
Another toy that helped destroy the elder race of man..forget about your silly whim it doesn't fit the plan.
Re: Got Yourself
Re: Got Yourself
So this is a song for which you've done the music and you've just tossed it over to the singer for lyrics and melody?
Re: Got Yourself
Yeah - it was at the bottom of my list for a lyrical theme, melody and vocals. Most of the other stuff is part of the way there, but most of it also needs the music re-tracked. I'm also getting fucking bored of the 10-15 songs I've been working on for the last year, but I've been learning a lot more about recording so keep re-doing shit every time I learn something new.
Re: Got Yourself
Yup. Me too. Every time I learn, or start doing something new that makes my recordings sound better, I want to go back and re-mix all my tunes.
In fact, what I do now is always have 3 projects going, at least. One original, one cover, and one re-mix of an older song. So many of my older tunes, I listen to them and say "Man, this is actually a good song. It just needs to be recorded better. I didn't know what I was doing at the itme". So I've resigned myself to the fact that I have a lot of old songs that could/should/will sound better. Sometimes, I'll just take a good part from an old song and write a new song around it.

Re: Got Yourself
Mix 6 with tuning tweaks from Ido - cheers, mate.

Re: Got Yourself
Better but still needs a few tweaks in the verses. Send me a reference backing track
and I'll try working on it a bit more later this week

Re: Got Yourself
I could've sworn I replied to this, dunno what happened...
This is pretty good Jdude, you've came a long way in a short time dude...
Here are the nits I have (mix #6):
I'd try to eq the guitars just a little, they've got sort of a boxy/nasal sound to 'em, should be easy to find & fix...
The vocals need automation dude, at times they sit really good in the mix, but at times they're also a bit too loud or a bit too quiet...A compressor will help for some spots, but may not work for 'em all, so you need to ride the fader a little dude...
The drums have that "Toontrack" sound to 'em IMO, & if you're using the room/ambiance in EZD, I'd turn it completely off (if that's what you're using) & set up a couple of reverbs, sending all the tracks to the 'verbs at varying levels (IE: I don't like a lot of reverb on my kick drum, & you can control that using sends)...Sending all the tracks to the reverb(s) will help it to sound like everything was recorded in the same space/room...
Don't think I'm bashin' on ya dude, just trying to help...
Pretty good Jdude, you're gettin' there...

I've actually got all of the reverb and ambience off in EZD and everything is sent to the track reverb. I think they're just very familiar EZD samples that everyone has heard before. Been thinking of upgrading to SD for a little while now. Might have to take the plunge before too long.
