What kind of pick do you use?

New Guitar Day? Obsessed with tone? 10 on the volume dial not enough? Celestion vs. Electrovoice? Cum in, feel the noize.

There's something about that metal smell that really bothers me. I've had a bunch of metallic picks over the years but after a few minutes my fingers smell like loose change (and I really hate that smell). I have the same problem with slides; I have a few great brass slides that I never play for the same reason. Chrome plated or glass is what I usually end up using.

I can't tell you how many irreplaceable picks I've lost. :spacepalm: I had a Warren Haynes pick for about 2 weeks before it grew some legs and left me. :lollers2:
I have a Ti wedding ring - doesn't get a manky metallic smell.
I noticed the rings don't smell as bad. I assume they're coated with something? Some sort of poly clear coat? I know the metal picks I've used were uncoated and smelled (at least to me) to high heaven.

Yeah, my ring doesn't smell at all...

Don't think its coated or anything though.

I'd call that pretty unique. And an amazing feat of contortion to check it out.

See? On Recording Review I might've got three "likes" there and been the envy of my peers.

To be fair to Recording Review, that was a pretty good system and did save time.

I've used the same pics since I was about 16, there are occasions when I used something else, but I use these 99% of the time...

My favorite is the Tortex III version...with it's sharper point.

I play the dunlop tortex .5's for guits and .6s for da bass.

I have been considering experimenting with different sizes. Surely i'd notice a differences but the .5's just seem to lie nicely in the middle of stuff. And like everything else in my life i like to be staunchly in the middle of just about everything.

Depends, I'm in the same boat as Bboot for the most part (must be something in the air at the store eh?) but lately I've been taking a page out of gibbon's book and using coins. Started with a '78 Canadian quarter (almost pure nickel) then found a British twenty pence coin on the floor of a bar and I've been using that more (cupronickel for that one). I'm liking the tonality of metal, as well as the weight.

Wow! 3 pages on picks? Wow!

Ok, what the hell, I'll play. I go back and forth. For years I've made picks out of cymbals. Same size and shape as your standard fender style picks.

They never break, it's easy to do pinch harmonics, and they have great grip. They've always been my gigging pick because it never slips from my fingers. The only downside is they turn my fingers a bit green. :D

In casual playing, I'll use Dunlop picks, either the blue or purple. Don't know why, just like them.

For acoustic, all manner of picks from very thin flexible to various stone picks. You can get a wide variety of different tones from the differences of picks.
