Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
JD,
This sounds really good to my ears. Music and vocals sounding good.
I am just learning and listening very closely, first at pretty low volume then at a moderate volume. I'm hearing a strange "click" in several spots throughout, mostly during what I think is the chorus. Before posting this comment I went back through the thread to see if anyone else had noticed it.
VHS Said:
"This is sounding pretty good.
Vocals definitely have a better tone and better dynamics with the occasional harmony. Something in them clicks at 1:05 on "dying" tho."
Like Steve, I hear a click here and again at these locations: 1:05, 1:10. 2:16, 2:22, 2:40, 3:16, and 3:22.
I hope to learn what this is and how to fix it if it indeed is a thing. Wondering if it might be on my end? but I think it's really there??

Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
Thanks Einstien. This is a click in the right hand backing vocal and were I've lazily copied and pasted it it carries right through the song! I'll have to re-track. I have loads of stuff to re-track based on this mix though. Cheers.einstein magoo wrote: ↑Sun Mar 04, 2018 7:11 pm JD,

Good thing I'm thick skinned! Not sure "thanks magoo" would make it sound any more sincere.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Mon Mar 05, 2018 11:42 amThis is such a good username because it makes all gratitude seem insincere!![]()

Fair point. I should get some more dentifix
Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
Totally new version,
Re-tracked rhythm guitars, done my best to remove the clicks on the backing vocal - must have sung those lines a million times now, still can't quite eliminate the clicks entirely - but they are minimal now.

James,
is this with new amp?
There's a touch of Magazine about it now.
Much improved.

Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
Pfffft. I just A/B'd Mix 3 and this last recent mix. It's like a whole new creature dude.
On my system the bass is a little woofy and thick but it works.
Your vocals and guitar are now fighting each in my ears in other in places. most notably the chorus. That is sort of where i seem to hear the struggle.
I like that little lead thing. It's cool. Did you retrack that too?

I’ve noticed that the vocals get lost in the chorus too. I think I’m going to wait until next weekend and re track this again but miked up.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Mon Apr 02, 2018 11:25 pm Pfffft. I just A/B'd Mix 3 and this last recent mix. It's like a whole new creature dude.

Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
Those mixes are pretty similar.
Some of the vocals might be a little loud, especially when all the parts pile up.
I like the new guitar tone.

Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
Yeah. I thought you'd realise that. As soon as I took your advice and just used a single mic with no other frills I had a bit of a tone epiphany on the weekend... unfortunately I'd already been recording for 3 days!

Re: Entertain Ourselves To Death
I think that Blackstar has caused you no end of grief. You've tried so many fixits and workarounds with that piece of shite you've ended up hardly being able to know your arse from your elbow. Micing an amp in the first instance ought to be the epitome of K.I.S.S. If you can't get a usable tone by poking an SM57 at your speaker halfway between the cap and the edge then there's something seriously wrong and in your case it was the amp. There's nothing wrong with micing with two or more mics when the situation demands it, but these are advanced techniques for peeps who have had success using the simple method and who are looking for an extra dimension of control and tone blending. Greg has excellent results using his multiple mics but he's actually recording a phenomenal sound source in the first place. I'm glad it's starting to work out for you.

I find I prefer the sound of an i5 but I take your point!
Ironically I think I learned heaps from the Blackstar just cos I tried so much to get the tone I wanted out of it and I even got some half decent ones in the end.
