I haven't started wiring yet. I fitted the neck, tuners, bridge and tailpiece posts, three-way switch and pots last night. Oh, and the bridge earth wire.

I dismantled the bridge to swap the saddles around and I've damaged some of the tiny retaining circlips by accident. What a plum.

Yep, but when I'm working on other peoples guitars I always use a magnet dish. You will probably be aware of how some people are totly anal when it comes to knowing all their parts are the same as when it came to me. Plus on vintage stuff you can seriously mess with value if you lose parts. Collectors are idiots..... Bloody musicians.. What would they know.:)
Oh yeah. Car people are like that, but the good thing is they're also stupid and don't know anything or want to get dirty. I had one greasy late-model Corvette spray-tan guido insist that I put his engine back together with the original factory bolts. I didn't, because you can't reuse some of the bolts on aluminum engines. They're torque-to-yield bolts. They're good for one tightening and that's it. I just ordered new TTY bolts as I had no choice. The originality of bolts only matters on serious classic collectible cars. A late model Vette is not and won't ever be one of those. A 63 Vette is a different story.

Been wiring tonight. My head is fucking spinning. So far I have the three-way switch wired in, and the B90 connected as far as the volume pot. That doesn't sound like a lot but there seems to be wires everywhere in a myriad of colours. I'm taking a break till tomorrow. Sorry, guys.

Little tip for future.

Do all the hook ups on the pots first while they are out of the guitar. You can put them on to a dummy piece of card so you get the hook up wires the correct length. Then install the pots and wire in the pickups one at a time and finally the switch and bridge ground.

Are you shielding the routes?

The wiring is not going well. I completed it tonight but something is not right.

Good bits:

The pickup selector selects the correct pickup or combination of pickups.

All the grounds are connected properly, including the bridge ground

The coil split (on the push-push tone pot) splits the humbucker.

The volume pots work properly on both pickups.

Bad bits:

Hard to tell for sure, but the tone pots seem to work opposite to how they should

The coil split takes out the primary coil instead of the secondary.

I need to think about this again tomorrow.

Bubba PM'd me this and Ithink it's just a matter of some crossed wires. The pots prolly just need the hot lugs switching and ditto the coil tap on the Bare Knuckle. Without their colour coding I9t's hard to tell. I also asked for a schematic or pic is nearly as good.

Don't panic Bubba, the time to panic is when it doesnt work at all....:)

I'll see what I can do about a pic. The thing isn't strung yet so it's hard to be sure - I'm testing by tapping the pole pieces at the moment. But yes, turning up the tone seems to roll off the HF.

It's not the tidiest of cavities. And LOL@ your clarification.

In the meantime, what are your thoughts on the instrument's aesthetic qualities?

I particularly like the look of that neck PUP. Very sexy.

You need to get it some black mounting screws. Then the question would be "how much more black can this pup be..?"... and the answer would be "none.... none more black"

LOL. I could get it done out in Vantablack. Then the answer would definitely be "none more black".

Lol. Wow, well it's hard to tell, but I think you wired up the tone pots backwards.

Do it like one of these:
Image

Then, use just the switchable part of the push/pull to split the bridge pickup. The rest is standard.

It looks so much simpler when the pickup selector wires and all the grounds are ommitted. Most of the extra wires you can see are individual jumps to ground.

Well think of it in sections.

Vol pots and tone pots.
Vol pots:
Top lug - bend back to ground.
Middle lug - selector switch (and tone cap with 50s wiring).
Bottom lug - Hot from pickup. No problem.

Tone pots:
Top lug - empty.
Middle lug - bend back to ground for 50s wiring, cap to vol pot hot for standard.
Bottom lug - bend to ground for standard, cap to middle vol for 50s.

That's pretty basic standard stuff.

Then, you just split your bridge pickup. The hot and ground go to hot and ground on the vol pots. The green/white goes to the pull terminal, the other push/pull terminal gets grounded to the pot case.
