At least it only blew a couple of caps. :)
Lol. If I got the biggest easiest first one wrong, then I'm terrified of what waits for me down the line. :lollers2:

Well I flipped the rectifier socket around to be oriented correctly, and now I'm just waiting on the new caps. My local Nerds-R-Us didn't have any 16-22uf electrolytic caps in a high enough wattage rating. So I'm on hold for a few days.

Doctor heal thyself in amp life. Well done in the diagnostic realm Greg.
At least now you know when, where, what, why & how.

Yeah, for this little hiccup. No telling what else is waiting for me.

The lame thing is this mistake was amazingly basic and stupid. Lol. Just a boneheaded error that I had right to begin with and then fucked it up by over-fiddling with it. :mad3:

I can tell you this - that will never happen again. I don't know how many other amp builds are in my future, but I GUARANTEE I'll never install a tube socket backwards again.

meh .... mistakes happen.
I have personally soldered 1/4 jacks on each end of a bunch of cables only to notice I hadn't put the caps for the jacks on the cables before soldering everything up.

:lollers2:

that's how you learn ....... I'm pretty impressed with the job you're doing and I don't impress that easily

Lol. Thanks. In my defense this is supposedly one of the absolute hardest kits to do. This thing is rated a 5 out of 5 on the difficulty scale. I don't know it compares because I've never done one before.

But I do know that compared to one of my Plexis or JCM 800, this thing is like astrophysics. :lollers2:

So you blew a couple caps up...Big fuckin' deal Greg, this is your first build man, & it's a learning experience...You've lived/learned & you'll move on...You've learned about wiring the tube socket up the right way, & I'm positive it's burned into your memory dude, so that'll never happen again...Sometimes when we learn the hard way, it's the best way...Don't beat yourself up over it dude, you'll get it up & running...

I'm still really impressed at how the whole thing looks, very neat & very tidy dude...Keep after it man, it'll happen... :minernuggs:

Ha thanks guys. It was actually kind of funny. I mean, yeah, it sucks, but those caps went kaboom! Sounded like firecrackers. I wish it didn't happen, but if it had to happen, that's how I'd want it to happen. Kapow!

It's okay. New parts are coming and I'll be back it soon enough.

Yup, real good. But I aint gonna lie....this fucking amp has been in the back of my mind the whole time. Lol.

I'm sitting in a kayak in a bay early on a tuesday morning, no one around for miles, just me and the pelicans, we're all trying to catch fish, and I'm replaying this whole build in my head trying to think of where else I went wrong. :lollers2:

haha, yeah. I get shit like that too. Whenever I have a job to do I just can't relax until I'm getting on with it. I was in the middle of building a load of cupboards and shelving and we went for an evening away - I was just mentally designing furniture in my head the whole time! :spacepalm:
