ANYONE care to play along?

Post by rayc »

This is a bit "early 70s prog without skippy time signatures and jazz chords".
A tad long and has a BIAB lead on it for the moment.
It's mostly in A with a move to almost C in the choruses.
It's only two days old, (a quick fling from acoustic noodling to DAW.
BIAB drums and organ as well.
The guitars are drafts for arrangement purposes - amp in a pedal jobbies.
If you'd like to play something on it or sing let me know and I'll send you a chord chart and appropriate backing track.

Here's a current state of affairs mix with HUGE choral bvox by @CrowsofFritz

No lyrics as yet...as mentioned I only stated on this two days ago.
LYRICS...
I think the chorus is a keeper but the verses, as they refer to the murder, may not stay as they're a bit "how's ya father?".

I found a Leslie VST sim in an ancient freebie, (2006?), mda bundle. The "ramp up" can be automated! Not perfect but cool and free.
This mix has an exaggerated organ to demo.

Slight update...I replaced the amp-in-a-box guitars with a mic'd Pignose pair

I decided to double track the chorus and record some slight harmonies to reinforce the verse vocal. In this mix I've muted @CrowsofFritz's choir so that I could focus on the lyrics and my bad vocals.

Once I've sorted these I can get Aaron's back into the mix.
Sort of sorted.
Aaron's vocals are back in and I've dumped the BIAB lead guitar.

Alison's cello is in and I'm looking for comments/suggestions for the mix PLEASE...

More Crowing...a general vocal tweak with a slightly simpler verse melody & some harshness subtracted...

A few tweaks to the vocals...I can't do much more unless someone jumps up to sing it.

Cool! Trying to think if there was something I can add. Some dark, floating cello maybe? After @CrowsofFritz adds his vocals, I might be able to add another layer, could be a fun challenge!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

Okay, Ray, here are the backing vox. No processing except on the power vox as some parts on that track were louder than others so I added light compression on there. Feel free to pan it and level it to taste. And to remove whatever you don't want.

That'd be cool @Alison
You might be able to hear the Mel9 "cello" on this already. I'd happily remove it so you can do whatever you like where ever you like. I'll get onto a package for you today.

@CrowsofFritz , @Alison & anyone else interested,
Here's a link to a folder with the chord chart, a mix with Aaron's vox and the backing, a mix of rhythm section & "strings" a full mix, (yes with my blahhhh vox), and a mix with the Mel9 Cello removed.

Thanks, Ray. I may have to wait until after Thanksgiving but, I'll definitely give it a shot and see what I can come up with.

I can give a whirl to some instrument or another, but it'll be after the holiday weekend. I just cleared my drum recording setup from the living room, but I'd be happy to drag it all back out in a week or two. Guitars, bass, virtual instruments would be easy to set up.

Anything you like @Tadpui ,
There's space for almost anything...highest on the list for replacement are the lead guitar and lead vocal, (BIAB), but anything else is open for renewal too...except cello & male bvox of course.
