Honey Hunters minus vocals - Idea 5

Post by Armistice »

I figure I'll just keep popping these things up as I do them, until my head is in a place where it feels like singing... :headwall:

This is the one that's the subject of the "One take" and "Tom tom help" threads. Probably more what you'd typically expect from me than the last one. :eep: Except shorter. Under 3 minutes. Woot... :jam:

I have another 3 in the works already in various stages.

Anyway - just so you get the structure and how I think it will end up - first 4 bars are an intro, and they're structurally different from the verses that follow - it does sound a bit weird on its own, but it'll make sense once there are words. Middle section - at this stage I have no plans on doing vocals in this section - it's meant to be a simple instrumental interlude. Outro... just as it is, nothing more added... you'll work it out.

Let 'er rip...

Had a listen through Armi and enjoyed the song.
Only thing that really stood out to me as problematic at this stage was the bass. V big and boomy, might cause you problems when you're going for a full mix.

Thanks JD - wouldn't surprise me - I'm used to losing the bass in the Sydney set up because of the layout - I may need some readjustment of my ears! I'll have a listen in the morning. Cheers

The bass sounds a tiny bit boomy, emphasis on tiny, but otherwise this is a solid mix.

Thanks @rayc - I thought the same too when I A/B'd it to something else this morning, so I've just poked it in a bit more - little bit off volume, the HPF up about 10dB, compressed a smidge harder - all very minor, below:

Sounds nice Armi. The low end is sitting right so far on my system. Love the guitar tone, and the arrangement.

The bass is well tamed in the second mix.

Love the clean guitar sound. Not sure, but it might be dominating the snare. It sounds quite a bit out in front. I think I need the vocal in there to tell for sure.

Thanks Trip. I'm just sort of trying to get accustomed to the new "studio" environment at the moment, hence posting un-sung tunes - obviously there'll be more work to do when I work out some words and sing them.

At least no-one is saying "The toms suck..."

This will be interesting to follow. Love that you ended it with a question mark. . .I tried to do that with a song of mine, had other musicians playing on it and they insisted on going back to the tonic. Love the ideas, love the sound. . .to be continued!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

I resolved, last New Year's Eve, to resolve things less...

I think when putting all this together as an album in the future, the song following has to have some sort of really abrupt start to really make listeners uncomfortable.

This is about what I would want from a honey hunters song. Has the Armi sound. 2nd Mix is playing well to my ears. IS there some sort of modulation effect on the guitar? or is that the trem on your Dues?

I usually put a slight touch of vibrato on via the Kemper to give it a bit of wobble. And I'm just touching the whammy in between phrases. Walking with delay/reverb etc.
