Armistice does power trio - A Multitude Of Sins (no vocals)

Post by Armistice »

As per other thread. Just so you know I haven't given up completely...

One guitar, one bass, one drums... I feel naked. I have a vague concept for the chorus, hence the title, but no idea what the song is about yet. Featuring the Duesenberg - sure you can tell from the little wobble every phrase.

About to tear the studio down again as I'm getting new carpet on Thursday, so I may have to take any feedback on notice...

Also, I decided to shortcut my usual agonising with snare drum samples by not using one at all. :smiles:

I’m getting jealous of all the toans all you guys are getting. The intro to this feels like a Law and Order type song where it’s a song over a montage.

Interested to hear the vocals over it!
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”

I like it.

Very brooding.

It's kind of interesting how far away your crashes sound. What's the idea you're going for there?

That Deusey sounds lovely.
I agree with @CrowsofFritz I need a video of a guy struggling to get a suspicious roll of carpet out of the back of a van, before chucking it into a flooded quarry.

The crashes are very far, but they sound cool - I think they really work. Will be interested to see where you go with this.
I reckon disposing of a body is a good theme for a song. You never know, after you and your mrs finally move into together, you might have to one day.

LOL@JD01

@Armistice this is how i want my crashes to sound ☹ how did you do this? is this just stock canned drums of some sort?

I feel like i can't comment on too much as all the moving important parts aren't even here yet? The guitar sounds really good though. Possibly a little tiny bit dark. but perhaps the vibe of the whole song and the vocals once they get in there it'll be just right for what you are after? Will be cool to hear this one evolve. It's been a good long while since i have heard some fresh Armi ear worms.

Hmmm, maybe just use disposing of a body as a metaphor for removing stress from your life. Actually I think I'll use that.

The crashes may not stay that way - hard to tell until I get some vocals in.

@WhiskeyJack - same crashes I use in everything, but softer hits (about 60) and big room reverb on the overhead track...

Still no idea what the song will end up being about. Annoying when you have a chorus but no actual lyrics for the rest of the tune...

Do you 'verb all your drums individually then?

To clarify, I do like the quiet, distant crashes; I think it's a good way to keep them from filling up the mix.

This. I find the crashes are always a dead giveaway to canned drums as well. Plus my preference is to have a lot of space in crashes rather than dry and in your face. I really like how these sound.

Yep - individual sends to the same ReaVerb bus with different amounts...

I think that the majority of the "effect" so to speak is the soft hit, rather than the reverb. Because you can do things instantly via parameters in the drum software that would take you lots of fucking around on a real kit, in terms of relative volumes of things in the "overhead" mic channel, it's easy to turn the crashes up on that track and hit them more softly - I imagine with real drums the snare would interfere a bit if you were trying to do that with actual mics - although as the only drum used in the piece is a kick you could probably do it easily enough.

Love your guitar sound on this, nice depth and decay, very rich sounding. Think you have a great start here, agree with previous post that the distant crashed give this a really cool ambient vibe.

The new guitar sounds very cool.
My ONLY nit is the Milo tin foil sound of the kick...I'd have thought a deep, thud would be in this...still sounds good though.
Cheers

Yeah, I'm still searching around for the kick I want. That's better than my stock kick, but it probably needs a different sample as a starting point.

The atmospheric guitar has great tone. The intro goes maybe a bit too long.

Low end instruments sound great and are at a real good level.

No real nits. It sounded nice.
