Footprints Under The Pumpkin

Post by stratmonkee »

Well, finally attempted some vocals on on one of the songs I've been working on the last few months. 1st time recording vocals on my own music in a few years so (gulp) ...its not great but its a start ...

I can tell you’re a bit nervous about the vocals—not the vocals themselves but mixing them. I think the vocals should come up. Be more confident in your voice! It’s a fun song!

A great start gene,
You need to add some dynamics to the vocal though as well as bringing them forward a little more too.
Cool song.

The vocals actually sound good to me. They are in tune and in time for the most part.

For the song as a whole, I really like it, but it needs some contrast between the sections. Maybe some BG vocals on the chorus or a synth pad of some sort. It just comes off as sort of static throughout, and needs some variation to my ear.

Yes, not very confident with vocals, just not my thing. The link now plays my new mix, attempted to raise them up . Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks Ray, new mix, did add some stops, raised and cleaned up eq /dried out lead vocal, added some odd effects to chorus backing vocals . Work in progress...think I may be adding a bit more instrumentation , whether its synth or guitar have not decided yet.

Yeah as far as being on time, I hate the 1st verse with the "Head on a swivel" line , the whole 1st verse seemed clumsy as far a timing, going to redo that I think. Agree about adding some more instrumentation, got a few ideas I will be trying. Thanks for the feedback!

Heres a link to new mix (now same as OP)

I haven't had any coffee yet, so I can't process the chaos yet, but I think I like it.

If the mix in OP is the updated one, the vocals are quite up-front. I don't know how buried they were before, but I would definitely not bring them any further forward than they are now.

Edit: Ok. Caffeinated now. It's sounding pretty good. Honestly, could use more chaos for my taste!

I listened to both mixes, but commenting on the second mix.

Cool song. Good use of delay.

I thought the vocal was OK. Definitely not horrible. Let loose!!

Tone on everything is good. The bass might be just a bit loud.

But I think that's it. It sounded good.

Thanks VHS, I really want to add some additional parts to this but so far , have not been able to come up with something that fits. Ive added a guitar part to a break about 1/2 way thru the song , but undecided yet if it sticks.

Yeah, vocals...ugh! Necessary evil for me I guess... I really like the bass part for this song, thinking might be a bit to round/fat a tone as well? That delay plug I used is cool, really warps the repeats randomly pitchwise. I'm a sucker for those type of effects! Thanks for commenting.

   Thanks! Yeah , been tracking vocals on a couple of new songs, and finding I'm reaching for that warped delay plug a little often, might have to curb that urge! :k:
