Your first recording.
So, this isn’t my first first recording. This is the first one I really did by myself with my own equipment. Everything preceding this was done at other places.
And the sound is.....surprisingly pretty good. My voice sounds a little bit higher being a 17 year old, but still sounds pretty close to how I am now. The part where I say “All I’m everyone’s enemy” is actually supposed to be falsetto, but this was before I was able to do a good falsetto so I had to do it low. This is also the first time I recorded drums by myself. I had to move all my equipment including my tank of a computer (they were so much heavier then) to my friends house.
Does anyone still have their first recording hidden away somewhere in their computer (or to tape)? How does it sound? Share it!

Re: Your first recording.
I had a lot of help with the engineering from my dad (who basically configured the DAT machine, showed me how to plug everything in, and picked out all the gear)
Basically spent a whole semester recording the album before school. It all sounds about like this except for the bonus track where I did goofy things like miking a door slamming.

First recording (done at 15). Also my 2nd or 3rd foray into songwriting (13 as per the lyrics).

Ugghh. I hate listening back to that album. Why did I pan it that way?! I'm pretty sure I had 8 tracks, why did I pretend I only had 4?
Crows, it's interesting to hear your song and see what you've changed and what you haven't. You very much sound like you're trying to mimic Frusciante there.

I was obsessed with Frusciante in my teens. Whole reason I got into music. I’ve since moved on, but I still listen to him occasionally. I actually posted a cover of him not too long ago. I AM excited now that he rejoined the Chili Peppers, though. Not the same band without him.vomitHatSteve wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 11:46 am Ugghh. I hate listening back to that album. Mine will be on a cassette somewhere that I no longer posess and I've nothing to play it on anyway.
Re: Your first recording.
Same here. I remember making a recording with 2 boom boxes, building up a multi-track recording that way. It was a cover of an Yngwie Malmsteen song

My friend and I did a couple of bedroom recordings of original songs in a similar fashion around that time as well, but I don't have those either.
And right before I got into recording circa 1999 or so, I recorded my first song on a computer in my first apartment, using a plastic PC mic and Real Media recorder. I've since lost those files as well.
I do still have access to some stuff right after that, after moving into my first house circa 2001 or so, using the same plastic PC mic. I'll dig those up tonight if I remember, they're around here somewhere.

Re: Your first recording.
It’s kinda sad how easy it is for stuff to just get lost to the void forever. I have some old projects I wish I could pull up and remix. But the hard drive died and there no way to recover it.

Re: Your first recording.
I have the cassettes and the means to play them!
My lovely Passport solid state external drive used to back up ALL of my recording stuff greeted me with a lovely - Can't read - corrupted - message last night.
Four HDDs and One SDD in about seven years - not good going. CDs aren't likely to last much longer unless they're decent quality and many/most CDRs will be delaminating as we speak.
Cassette have lasted me for 46 years and digital tech is lucky to survive two.
John F with & without and RHCP & visa versa - sorry, nice cover but both strike me as classic Much Ado About Nothing. I get a great kick from RHCP having their biggest hit as a simpy ballad.
