In A Parallel Universe ....

Post by rayc »

Hello Folks,
I had the chaps I occasionally collaborate with, (they use me for bass and some simple guitar), do one of my songs for a change.
With this one I presented a demo of the complete song for consideration.
It's me on bass and all but the lead guitars.
The usual singer sort of "withdrew" from the project after doing some of the vocals...he completed the verses and one chorus but didn't finish the other ones.
The Mellotron is from files of the tapes rather than my Mel9.
the guitarist gets plenty of space in this...he's not an aggressive player by any means but he does a lovely meander.

Figured I'd post it as James popped in a longer track yesterday.
Cheers

Reminds me of a combination of Pink Floyd and Radiohead!

This is a bit of a change, Ray. Sounds like Floyd, after Gilmour joined but before Meddle. They did a couple of unusual albums in there.

No comments on the mix really - seems pretty tidy., It is generally pretty tasteful meandering.

So are the vocals on this you then, ray? Is that French? You sound particularly like Peter Garrett on this one.

I like the thump on the kick here.

Just finished listening to JD01's song , now Rays...man, some great stuff on here tonight!!!
Agree with the Floyd vibe or Van Der Graaff generator...cool bit of wah in there . Great mix, very full and well balanced on my phones, well done Ray!

Yeah really a different feel from you.

Guitar sounds are very nice sounding. Bass sounds terrific. Snare sound is killer if you ask me.

See if you can get a solid vocal take. It's washed out in effects and gets lost behind the instruments here and there.

And yeah - a big Floyd vibe.

@Lt. Bob ,
thank you sir.
@CrowsofFritz ,
take your pick - Pink Head or Radio Floyd. Thanks.
@JD01 ,
Thanks James.
Scott, the Canadian guitarist, play nice, gentle, flowing stuff. It'd be cool if he dug in occasionally but seems to not be his things.
@vomitHatSteve ,
I "sing" the 2nd & third choruses. Robert, the singer, is having hearing trouble...pressure build up in the inner ear or something which makes listening and singing difficult. he had a crack, sorted the verses and asked me to finish it.
@stratmonkee ,
Thanks Gene, I'd be more a Van fan that a Floydoid if it came to it.
@TripleM ,
Cheers,
I retracked the bass very late in the piece because I didn't like the tone from my Hofner knock off.
The drums are a stereo file but I EQ's to lift and work on the snare. Thanks for hearing that.
Sadly this is as good as the vox get...the singer can't redo them, he is inclined to overprocess his voice, and my vocals only exists with more processing than salami.
Cheers
