"Level" obviously should have been "depth" if they wanted to go with the theme, but I guess seeing that means something with time based effects, that would have confused everything more..

JHS might be the worst. What the actual fuck is this?

That's the Muffletta - each setting on the right picture knob i a different version of the big muff with the JHS mod version included. I have a Muff clone - three knobs and the on/off stomp. MORE than enough for me.
Yes, they try tooooo hard to be funny clever and their mid priced market is still way out of my league.

NAD

Scored this broken amp from a dude I sort of know at one of our rehearsal studios. It turns on but makes no sound.
Image

I got it home and found the problem in about ten seconds. Rotted solders at the input jack.

I touched them up, checked over everything else, set the bias, and I got a perfectly functioning UK-made proper JCM2000 DSL for $150. :illdrinktothat:

Fuck yeah. I was gonna flip it, but now I'm gonna keep it. It sounds great. I don't have a "high gain" amp anymore since trading my JVM to dear sweet minerman RIP. This one will do nicely.

Shit @Greg_L that is quite the rad little score!!!! How awesome! I can only imagine your stokedness when you found the fix was relatively simple one! :happytrees: :like:

They are just trying to be as cool as Orange. Orange has been using herioglyphics since the 70's. Nice try JHS.

But i see your point though. Ive seen some pretty dumb pedals out there with no or totally stupid ironic product names. Like that lame phase of pop punk from the early mid 2000's where the song names were a full sentence or two long and "ironically" had nothing to with the theme of the song.

Yeah I expected to have to replace the main power board which is usually what shits out on these things. And that may still have to happen one day. But for now it was only two little input jack solders and all is well. :coolstorybro:

Amazing buy Greg. Even not working $150 is weirdly cheap.
Classic five minute fix too.
Well done - reward for learning how.

Thanks. Yeah I think the guy was just frustrated with it and just wanted it gone. He seemed pretty fed up with the amp. Maybe it has more problems. I don't even care. Whatever it might be I'll fix it. These amps go for around 550-750 used. They're very common and not particularly special. 150 is cheap, but it was actually "broken". :lollers2:

I have a little pickup truck I got the same way. A guy I used to play with owned it and had some shadetree guy put a new engine in it. This "mechanic" kinked a fuel injection wire when putting the new motor in and it never ran right. My guy called me over, I spotted the problem, and before I could even tell him what it was he said "just give me 600 for it and you can have it". I went right to an ATM, withdrew the money, paid the guy, and drove the truck around the corner and fixed the wire. It's been fine ever since. That was 12 years ago. I still have the truck.

Funny you mention that story, this 18 y.o. kid I’ve been working with has been saving up and talking forever about buying a truck for $600. Like talking non stop. He finally bought it. Well, he hasn’t been talking about it at all recently. I don’t think he knew what he got himself into. Probably a whole host of problems with that truck. He says he wants to be a mechanic, though, so this is a good lesson for him.

I always tell people....if a vehicle runs and drives reliably, it's worth a grand no matter what visual shape it's in. I'd expect a typical 600 dollar truck to be overwhelmed with problems.

Yeah, he was asking $1000 for it, and the kid said, “would you take $600?” and the guy immediately said yes. The kid said the radiator was full of “mud.” Not sure what that entails. Maybe lots of rust in there? Can’t be actual mud.

Probably rust, scale, corrosion, and maybe a little actual mud. :lollers2:

Sure, could be some of that too. Classic engine milkshake. Yummy!

Usually it's the other way around though. It's much easier for water to get into the oil than oil getting into the water.

The cooling system is under constant pressure and an internal leak will allow coolant to squirt into areas where it shouldn't be. The oil system is under pressure too but only in very specific localized areas. Either scenario is a major clusterfuck. :lollers2:

I know it may fail at any second but so far the blockstop has kept the Sedona on the road.
When it fails then it's new used van time!
But if it works for another 10 years then I'll drive this POS another 10 years!

I don't wash it because I like to keep a protective layer of dirt on my things.

We've got a 15 year old Peugeot diesel. Suppose you'd call it a mini station wagon (Brits here will know what I mean). We mainly use it for driving to the beaches and I drive it to construction sites.

Its a proper old style diesel with about 3 moving parts under the bonnet. Will probably do another 100k if I keep changing the oil and filters.
