I used to love the DOD pedals in the 90s where you had no idea what the fuck anything did. Juice Box? Gonkulator?

ok I'll take a stab at it.
I'm gonna say pre-vol is gain so it's a dirt box of some kind ........ and tilt is the tone control because it would 'tilt' the freq response one way or another ...... lemme go see ....... yep again .... the old guys' mind still works. Proof that pot is good ..... ( some studies suggest it can help ward off Alzheimer's)

However it's not strictly a dirt box because reviews say it's meant to emulate a console channel which are rarely described as getting distortion.

This is fun!
let's have some more!

:smiles:

And I freakin' LOVE pedals ...... but I'm old and senile ...... who are you guys and what are you doing in my house?

Greg_L wrote: Fri Feb 05, 2021 2:34 pm Okay fair enough. I'm not a fuzz guy. I don't own any and don't like fuzz. So I'm ignorant on that stuff. My own fault.

But what's the "tilt" supposed to do on that crayon pedal I posted just above? What is that pedal?
Yeah, stuff like that drives me crazy. If I remember correctly, the Crayon is an overdrive pedal (I think it was a collab with another pedal maker, where both brands had a Crayon pedal). "Tilt" tells me nothing, like you were noting. Knowing Josh, it's either some super-specific control over the circuit where "Tilt" has some meaning in that technical context, or it's some abstract way to describe what effect the knob has. It's the latter that drives me crazy...it'd be like having a "warmth" knob. Ugh.

Yeah the JHS guy is clearly very smart and I have no doubt that he makes fantastic pedals. I like his videos too even though I couldn't care less about a fucking pedal. But he gets too cute and cryptic for his own good IMO. Maybe he doesn't want me for a customer. That's fine, but he's only catering to the cork-sniffer pedal boy crowd.

It very well might be. But the way pedal people are it wouldn't surprise me at all if it's real.

I can see how pedals, particularly drive pedals, become irrelevant when you have loads of amps

It's not really that. Yeah I hand pick amps that do what I want all on their own. But it's the compression and shelving and transitorizing that I don't like from drive pedals. I do like effects pedals. Phasers, flangers, wahs, delays, all that is good to me.

If you only have the one amp... or the space for one amp etc drive drive pedals are a good way of changing the character of your amp. Personally I like the shelving effect too.

That's the pedal I was looking for to illustrate really terrible labeling. I thought it was the Digitech Grunge, but that actually has somewhat decipherable labels. But that Meat Box is just irritatingly vague about what the knobs do. Perfect illustration.

When I had just the one amp I picked a multi-channel amp that gave me more than I'd ever want or need because I knew I'd not want to depend on stompboxes.

Yup. Great design feature. :lollers2:
Yes, when I got mine, which was a 2017 model. I was thinking of going for the uber top end model with zero fret and improved upper fret access, and it had dip switches as well - glad I didn't, seeing how little I actually use the 4 knobs.

JHS might be the worst. What the actual fuck is this?

Muffaletta! I even know that one... but only because a couple of years back I wondered what "muffaletta" actually meant and you told me...
