ACoustic Punk Cover

Post by JD01 »

All this talk of mics made me want to sing something... believe it or not, I started finger picking and this was the first thing that came to mind.

Lol pretty good. I think can hear the click track bleeding through in spots. I didn't think that's what it was at first but then at the end you can really hear it.

I know it's probably moot in this instance because this is not your normal vocal track, but what did you have to do in processing to make this vocal take work?

LOL. Anti-Nowhere league. Not bad Man. The Guits are flawless really. I got no nits. With that.

Your vocals don't sound horrible either, but i'm wondering if you are right up on the mic in some spots? It get's really thick and saturated in some spots when you aren't whispering anymore and start layering in bvox. I can't tell how much of that saturation is your processing or mic technique.

Speaking only of my experiences i have horrible mic technique and i get that saturation from not backing off the mic when i get louder and there isn't anything i can do to fix it in post other than going back and redoing whole takes / lines / verses or chorsus. I hate punched in vocals for one or two words or one line.

Anyhow, for your consideration JD. Something to think about. Cool Cover though. Hadn't heard that in a very long time.

Yeah it's not bad for this style. I'd like more air and clarity in everything, but the guitars are sort of dark-ish too so the vocal matched well.

I think I'll do a bit more work and testing with this mic before I decide what I'm gonna do. The main problem I always have is getting a vocal to sit in the mix... but as I've from the little mistakes cos this is just a single first proper take it sits in the mix just fine. I think I need to spend more time practicing mixing vocals and then chose a mic based on what I actually think I need.

Not horrible... that's the nicest thing you've ever said to me :)

You're probably right. I didn't back off on the higher notes in this and I ordinarily would. These are just single quick takes.

Haha! I meant the overall sound of the vocal tracks. Not near as bad as you make it out to sound sometimes. I figured it was just one of those spurr of the moment "i got this" kind of recordings so i do get it.

I think you will find heaps of difference when you land an LDC :like:

Ha ha - I've never heard this song before... excellent. Nothing to add re. the recording, but I don't think that was the point of it.

Nice. :like:

Cool cover JD01

My biggest problem with the vocal is the "t" sound at the end of words. The double is a bit off so I hear both voices end "what" at different times. To me your vocals sometimes the doubling is too obvious. When I double I try to hide one so it is just there to fill in the weak spots.

Guitars sound very nice.

A couple of lip smacks or pops. e.g., 2:08. Pop on the left at 2:41.
