From The Armistice Vaults 1 - Elegy

Post by Armistice »

Because this forum won't be complete until every single tune in it is one of mine!

Hi, I'm Troy McClure - you may remember me from such acts as The Jongleurs and Honey Hunters, but long, long ago, I crawled out of the primordial slime as Armistice and produced 3 entire albums of instrumental. primarily acoustic, guitar music. Alas I knew nuffin' about recording at the time. Two of these albums were completed before I joined HR, in March 2000, and before I even owned a microphone.

When I played my last HH tune in Soundcloud, after it finished it ticked over automatically and started playing my first album and I thought, "I bet the folks at TRR would enjoy hearing this stuff :lollers: - the acoustic and electric guitars plugged straight into the Roland VS840, the heavy overuse of reverb and chorus pedal, the occasional appearance of a crappy drum machine... They will love it!"

But, if you get over all that stuff, you can just perhaps just listen to the music and maybe draw a musical line from then to now. No mix suggestions please, trust me, they're done! :coolstorybro: Ausrock still thinks this is my best work.

Just doing this so you've got something new to listen to as you huddle inside, fearful of the virus laying waste to the world on the other side of the door. Pull up a chair. We'll start here. Album #1 - "six:ten"* - track 3, Elegy.

* let me know if you work it out... :like:

Instrumentals need reverb and chorus.
I'd like to hear this on the living room stereo so I can experience the soundstage.
Lovely.
Cheers

It definitely sounds like the way you handle an acoustic. Lots of intertwining lines.

Definitely sounds like you slapped an ugly amount of 'verb on it to the point that it comes off as noise floor. Good to see the progress tho!

six:ten? That reduces to 3/5. If you were in the US, there's definitely a meaning for that, but I have no clue on the context in Aus

Yes - and cheap nasty onboard reverb and nothing I can do about it now. By the third album I was definitely making progress with recording chops, once I discovered HR, and microphones... :lollers:

6 strings, 10 fingers. Plus it's my birth date - at least the way we do it down here. Plus there are 6 + 10 songs on the album. It seemed to make sense at the time.

That sounds cool Armi. You've got me in the mood for trying something like that now.

Ah. As a 4-string player, I probably wouldn't have caught that ever!

I got nothing for this one Armi other than i enjoyed the atmospheric feel to it.

However, your talent kind of makes me sick. In the very little down time i have gotten in the last three weeks i have sort of been trying to practice acoustic guitar picking in my grotesque shan style (dam impossible really but i have seen others do it) and this just makes me want to hang it up and go back to bashing out power chords.

thanks for that. dick. :lollers2:

Wow, very nice! Your playing is exquisite. I could hear some underlying cello (I'm a bit biased) and some background humming (oo-ing?) vocals. If you EVER want any, please feel free to ask! This is really awesome!

Thanks Alison - I'll keep the cello offer in mind for when I'm doing new stuff. It's winter here, so I'm waiting for it to warm up a little at the moment before getting new stuff happening.

Ah, and I can't wait for winter to arrive here, cooler, more comfortable! Maybe I'll get more work done. I forget that a lot of you guys are in Australia!
