Hello In There

Post by Alison »

Recorded this after John Prine passed away. . . a very sad loss to the music community! Anyway, it's a beautiful song and I hope I have done it some justice. Cello is definitely my thing :)

There's a note at 0.17 that slides and would make sense with a solo, instrumental or something that didn't have a guitar tinkering away but amongst the other instruments it stood out a little.
I'm not a Pine fan - my era and in some ways he fits my taste but he & I didn't jell - probably his Americanized grammar.
This is a lovely song and the arrangement is very appropriate. The cello really does a nice job as faux acoustic bull fiddle thing.
Ace vocals.
Well done.
Cheers

Good sounds and good performances as usual.
Sounds very left sided to me though, not really sure what you can do about this, aside from possibly turn up the acousitc on the right a bit and turn down the (bowed cello?) on the left to make them balance out a bit better. The left side is really dominating at the moment

rayc thank you! I will look into that note you mentioned. IJohn Prine had a big influence on my in my younger years along with Joni Mitchel, Carol King. . . etc. I am old. . . :)

JD01 I have a bit of hearing loss in my left ear, that may be why I teand to over compensate towards the left. Will definitely check that out! Thank you!

sounds good ..... always like your stuff ..... the instruments are very good sounding ...... I find the vocal to ne mixed too far back ..... at first I felt like I almost couldn't hear it but by the 2nd verse I could.
But I'd like that vocal up a bit

Sorry for the late reply to this Alison.

I agree with Lt. bob, i would like to have your vocals sitting more up front and more of a focal point of the song. I also do hear what JD is saying about the left lean. I am hearing that too. if there were a way to bring some of that weight back to centre that would be cool. I think it is largely in the strings where i am hearing all that.

Alison, as much as I hate to recommend "mixing with your eyes"... if your hearing is that knackered on one side. Use the meters in your recording software to help you out.
I'm not saying the stereo mix has to be perfectly balanced at all times, if at all, but it could help you :)
