Hey!! Found my way back! Recording again...Talking Heads cover

Post by stratmonkee »

Have been doing the band thing pre covid pretty heavy, so not much recording....all that's changed last few months as I live in Michigan, super locked down state...no gigs, no band ...so dusted off the recording stuff and did this one to ease back....lost my way here and had to do a lot of searching on the other site to find this....anyway, cool to see so many names I remember ..
Here is my version of The Talking Heads Psycho Killer

Cool Gene, cool.
I loved the band until DB decided the band wasn't enough.
This is a loving homage to the original.
Tina would be pleased.
Glad you navigated your way to RRs.
Cheers

Hey queepy. Heard this one over on hr but listening again now.

You really nailed the bass part and the guitar tone here. I didn’t remember that you did that long delay/repeat thing on that verse towards the middle...that’s pretty cool.

Fun listen! Thanks.

Cool Heatmiser, yeah , some good stuff on that site as well..some new people had not heard during my previous stint...great music. Yeah , I was pretty happy with the bass on this...actually put a little more then usual attention into the bass track . I thought the delay on 2nd verse would be cool and help to enhance the "psychotic" vibe of the singer :happytrees: .

Only on my phone here but it sounds decent. Ill report back when i get in front of my monitors but sounds pretty true to form to the original. So catchy.

Ill report back later on.

I thought it sounded very good. I liked the bass sound too.

Guitar tone fit well.

Maybe raise the lead vocal a db?

A bit too much reverb for me.

Drum fills get slightly mechanical here and there.

Tones sound good. I like the vocal layering. Tho there's one kind of whiney tone on the left that sounds very close in headphones. There's a kind of hissiness to the vocals too. What's your chain look like.

I like the use of delay in v2.

Some timing issues at the start, but they level out when the band kicks in.

Hi TripleM, thanks for the listen, after letting this one sit for a few weeks, agree its a little to "wet" going to address the reverb. Will try the lead vocal up a little as well.... waiting until lockdown is over to have my drummer put some real drums on, thy are loops right now.

Thanks vomitHatSteve , I think your talking about the chorus with the vocal having a whiney tone? Verses are just 1 vocal track...I need to go back and look at that chorus and see if my panned chorus vocal level is out of wack, as Im hearing it as well on headphones, but not really without. I'm using Presonus StudioOne to record , and just used a plug preset called rock vocal on the lead vocal track, will look at that as well for hissiness high end sizzle. Thanks for your feedback!

Sounds pretty cool. Great bass, good song choice for you to cover.

I must admit I'm disappointed that you chickened out on the bellowing oh oh oh OOOOHHHH YEAH YEAH YEAH YEAHs. That's a signature part of the song!

Mix sounds good to me. I think the vocals are a little thin. Loud enough for me, clear enough, but thin. The vocals almost sound AM radio-ish at times. Not quite but almost. Thin and sibilant. Nothing a little EQ can't fix. But overall it's pretty good.

Haha yeah man ..I did chicken out on that part :lollers2: ...I'm thinking of re tracking the lead vocal because that part is really missing to me as well....will try to address the tone as well....thanks for listening!

The band I was in years ago did this one. I could do the signature, "...aye y-aye y-aye" thing in a passable impersonation of David Byrne. I rock. :)
