An original. Worth pursuing?

Post by CrowsofFritz »

Made a folk song that’s a sorta Frankenstein of three different folk songs lol. I think it sounds decent but I wanna know if it’s something I should continue or if I should just scrap it.

“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”

This sounds good - sounds very much like early Dylan (don't know if this is usual for your music....)

Thing is, if this is the sound/vibe you want I wouldn't even bother changing it much - just try and remove the hiss, and there's a bit of a piercing frequency in the vocal you could try and reduce.

If early Dylan sound is what you're after though, don't mess with this too much.

Yeah, aim for Huddy Leadbetter fidelity...nothing wrong with a murder ballad.

This seems like the sort of thing that a really decent single-mic recording would capture best. Get rid of the hiss; check the tuning/intonation of the guit; position the mic so that the guitar and vox are both clear and there's little mouth noise. Done.

Haha one of the three songs borrowed in this Frankenstein is a murder ballad by Dylan.

Oh hey, I figured out how to quote multiple people an easier way than I was doing!

Thanks! I was pleasantly surprised at how decent this scratch track sounded.

I think this is friggin awesome CrowsofFritz but i have an issue.

I think you need to either get the guitar at the same quality level of your vocal or get your vocal quality down to the guitars level. Which is sorto f a conundrum becasue your vocal track is really nicely recorded. But!!!! that whole murder ballad vibe needs your vocal track dumbed down.

And add in some record dust and dirt clicks added in It wouldn't take much to make any of that happen. Good work though dude. like someone upthread mentioned think old leadbetter quality jams.

As much as i hate to say it is my opinion this song need to be lo-fi to complete the art piece!!! :like: :happytrees:

Thanks I was wondering about going to lo-if route, but idk how to do it without being cliche.

Agreed. I like this track and I think you should flesh it out.

On my phones though, the vocal sounds closer and more full and clear, vs the guitar that sounds more distant and old-timey.

Not sure how you recorded this, but I'm sure there's at least a few ways to get them more in the same space if that's what you're going for. Sounds fine as is really, but I think the vocal track should share more of the sonic qualities of the guitar track myself.

Yeah, I only did it with one mic. I’ll try to have it closer to the guitar or play the guitar higher up.

Thanks for listening!

I liked it. I thought WhiskeyJack was on to something with the vocal and guitar.

The vocal is up front and clear. The guitar is cloudy, way back, and missing high end. So it sounded dull. Match those two - one way or the other.

But I liked it. Very Dylanesque.

Thanks! Just wanted to get an idea of what people thought of it. I’ve written some bad apples before I wouldn’t dare show anyone lol.
