Chicks Dig It When I Talk Like Elvis
Chicks Dig It When I Talk Like Elvis
Please let me know what you think of the song and mix.
Comments on the drums would be welcomed. It's my first attempt at programmed drums (Superior Drummer 3). Free Elvis impersonation at the end for those patient enough to get there. Thanks!
Mix 2
Lyrics...
Chicks Dig It When I Talk Like Elvis
I can kinda see how this thing's sort of going
You're gonna make it seem like you don't really care
I can understand it with what you got showing
Yeah your boob job's sweet but honey I don't scare
A prissy little missy yeah you choose that all you got
It's you versus me but you ain't that tough
You could think I'm a loser but I'm not
Forget about the other stuff
I'm gonna get you 'cause of one thing
I can talk just like I was the king
CHORUS
Chicks dig it when I talk like Elvis
I had you whipped from the very start
And I can say, "To hell with all this"
"Love song stuff to win your heart"
I don't gotta sing on key or deal with the crowd noise
I don't gotta work out much or even try
I don't gotta croon it or sound like the Beach Boys
All you really need is a down home guy
Your problem is I got the end it all gadget play
And I don't need a racing stripe across my car
So suck it up or dumb it down or pick your own odd cliche
It doesn't matter who you are
I'm sorry sweetie you don't get a choice
Cause I can belt that velvet voice
BRIDGE
Now although you'll try to run me down you'll never make it on your own
'Cause sweetie I get smokin' hot when I get in my zone
It ain't talkin smack if you're talking E, no matter what you say
Your life is just one big long bad hair day
CHORUS
VAMP CHORUS
So try to think up a rhyme with Elvis
I double dog dare you underneath my breath
OK maybe you can think of pelvis
But now try one that wasn't done to death
CHORUS

COOL.
I love the intro though the guitars sound just a bit fizzy, (mind you I've headache so it could be my brain's interpretation).
FUN,
That BIG cymbal at 0.49 hurt!
Really enjoyable - I think you programming is pretty good - not unnatural or too busy at all.

wow ..... challenging vocals ....... I mean really challenging ...... nice job on that.
TBH I didn't notice the drumbs at all so at the very least they didn't do anything odd enough to catch my attention ...... lemme go listen again BRB ..... nah ....... drumbs sound fine
a big whoop whoop for that vocal line

On a first listen, nothing is sticking out as not really working. You've got your usual buzzy lead tone, that I'm not sure I'm a fan of; but your signature is your signature.
Maybe the BGVox feel a little close on headphones? Some 'verb might move those back a bit.
Woah. That elvis imitation is you? Sounds nothing like your singing voice!

Re: Chicks Dig It When I Talk Like Elvis
TripleM I like the song and the arrangement.
Love the intro and the bass playing throughout.
The bass drum is a little punchy for me and there is a cymbal crash at about :50 that is quite loud.
The outro guitar solo sticks out a bit instead of blending in, don't know if it's the panning or the tone. Maybe a little of both.
I agree with VHS that the BGVox are a little close, maybe pan them to the side a bit and/or add some verb. They seem very dry to me.
Good work, the recording and song have great energy.

Ray - thank you for the critique. I'll bet that cymbal crash is a note with a velocity at 100 that I just forgot to change.
Lt. - it's really hard to sing this one. Really strains the throat. Thank you sir.
VHS - yeah the Elvis is me. I've always had a chameleon kind of voice. I can make it sound very different. And I've always been pretty good at impersonations. Maybe I should play around with the lead tone. Dunno. I'm not a huge fan of the tone either.
Turtle - that makes two comments on that cymbal crash and two comments on the dry BGV's. I'll look in to both of them.

Oh I can actually listen to this. I like it! The vocals are a little pitchy but that works in the style of the song.
“Naaaaaaaaaah man. I ain’t touching that mic. That thing’s expensive!”

Thanks Crows... appreciate it.
Re: Chicks Dig It When I Talk Like Elvis
I finally got around to fixing a couple of things:
1. I made the BGVs a little wetter
2. I fixed that cymbal crash
3. I retracked the riff with less gain
Mix 2 at the top.

Thanks VHS. Glad you mentioned the lead tone. I like the new tone better too.

Re: Chicks Dig It When I Talk Like Elvis
Man i got absolutely nothing Trip. Very cool. that guitar tone reminds me of like 60's rock leads. If that makes sense. Like you nailed it that sound. I can't think of any examples i just sort of get transported to the 60's as soon as i heard it. The drums sound really awesome actually. I quite like those.
2nd Listen, Maybe some of the higher pitched "ouuuuus" have a feel of being a bit pitchy but i have to struggle to hear if they are or not? I still can't decide if they are or if it just lots of layers of "ouuus" haha. All good man. Nothing worth retracking i don't think.
That Elvis impersonation is deadly. Awesome song.

Thanks WhiskeyJack for your time and thoughts. I appreciate it.

Haha! This is pretty good MMM. It almost sounds like it hurts to sing this one, but I mean that in a good way.
I thought the drums sounded really good actually. I might’ve shaped them a little lighter and less meaty for a tune like this, but it’s close to where I’d want it.
I loved the guitar parts throughout. Nicely done.
