Re: Song Draft August 2019
Latest mix is sounding pretty balanced.
I certainly don't miss the stand-in vox!

Thanks VHS.
There's a slightly augmented mix in the O.P.
Classical guitar at the front end and some mandolinness over the end.

Ray - I'm listening to the latest version of this and I generally think it sounds pretty good. I like the intro too.
One weird thing - the snare sounds like its miles away from the rest of the kit, do you have loads more verb on it?

Re: Song Draft August 2019
Hello James,
Thanks.
The snare is part of the BIAB stereo file so hasn't been treated differently.
I'll have a look at the project in the morning and suss out if I've tweaked the stereo file & it's reacting to reverb or something else.
Cheers

Re: Song Draft August 2019
ray, giving it a listen and i i got hit with a memory of hearing parts of this arrangement in another black metal song. I will try to find it and send it along your way. Purely out of interest sake. I can't remember if it was Satyricon or Ulver but i will find it. Just a very tiny bit of riffing you do.
As for the mix i quite like the latest one. I kind of pick up what JD is saying about your snare but i feel that it cuts through, and i can hear it and it plays with the rest of the kit quite nicely. It works for the mix. I don't know that it would work for another song where you'd need a more present in your face thing but for this jam it works. It sounds distant but it is cutting through and translating.
Am i crazy why am i not hearing any vocals?

rayc If that doesn't start at 4:40-4:45ish skip ahead to that time frame and just give it a few seconds. These guys are freaking legends in the black metal world, and it seems you were both blessed by the riffing gods for a catchy atmospheric hook.
I couldn't help but not hear it man. Sorry. I hadn't listened to that song since probably the late 90's !!!! And that little tiny 3 second riff you played just hit my memory banks like a ton of bricks and took me back to smoke filled basement apartments bitching about high school teachers and talking big dreams of being full time muscians. The human brain is a funny funny thing.
I sense that vomitHatSteve has a small black metal love affair and might also find this interesting.

That was something of an interlude. Yep, I hear similarities in several ways - luckily I make a change they don't or visa versa so I may noy have to retro actively sue them & myself in the same process. I'm glad I didn't use the Mel9 Flutes in mine too.WhiskeyJack wrote: ↑Tue Oct 08, 2019 10:31 pm [BBvideo=560,315]https://youtu.be/B0l4B_QiZD0?t=280[/BBvideo]

@JD01 ,I checked the project and with/without reverb or EQ the snare pokes it's head WAY up in the original file.

Re: Song Draft August 2019
I could probably take a stab at it if you want.
The latest mix is very vocal forward. They could probably come down substantially.
