Recording Challenge #2 - On The Inside

Post by JD01 »

OK, so... here's the theme from my favourite 1980's Aussie drama about a women's prison.

My version:
On The Inside.mp3
Original: (I think this was a #1 in Aus!)

JD01 that amp really shines here. The palm mutes, the strummed chords, it maintains its clarity the whole time. Good mix!

Yeah, considering that I did the guitars for this in about 20 minutes over lunch they've turned out really well. Cheers guys.

Ha ha, JD, I've seen the programme a few times but I have absolutely no memory whatsoever of this song! It sounds good though, bearing in mind that the sound card on my new laptop is absolute pants!

HA! Dude this was awesome. Orange is the new JD. Not wondering if this show was the inspiration for that show. Regardless i hadn't heard the song or seen the show so i listened to the original first. You did a pretty great job. Those guitars are killer really. And you are sort of the king of those slinky little chink chink noises between chord transitions. I like that about your jams.

I got nothing really. For a quick wham bam cover i think you aced it homey!!

All the bed tracks are great. I loved the guitars.

Drums sound great. Can you give me details?

It's just EZ Drummer with all the EZ Drummer ambience, compression and reverb and panning turned off. I do all that myself in reaper instead.

It is to laugh...my wife loved the original series and she watches the new version.
To me the song and show are a good match.
Mate, the guitars really shine in this and the drums are cool too. I might suggest the bass is a little anonymous but it serves the song well.
Cheers

I actually originally had a really complex bassline for this which I was working on which followed some of the melody and chord extensions in the original song but I wasn't getting a clean take of it... then I parked the song for a couple of months and couldn't be arsed to work it out again.

Haha pretty good. You turned something my grandma might listen to into something worth listening to. Never heard of that show. Is it like a 70s orange is the new black?

Yeah, I think it was made from the late 70s into the mid 80s. But then was shown on UK tv late at night throughout the mid 90s. I used to drink loads when I was a teenager and suffered from terrible insomnia... so I always ended up watching this old Aussie prison drama

Hahaha. One of my favourite shows ever. (Guilty pleasure) I'm old enough to remember it on UK TV the first time around in the 80's. Used to record and watch it before school in the morning. Then like yourself, I watched it in the 90's on Ch5 at around 4:45am? every morning. I was stoned throughout the 90's. Now I own them all on DVD, I am literally that sad!

This recording though is so wrong, it's fucking amazing. Thanks for sharing JD. I really enjoyed it. :coolstorybro:

haha, cheers mate! :coolstorybro: I could never get Ch5 so I must have been watching it on ITV. I think ITV Wales was slightly different though.
