The SG - looks very cool - I was just writing about an MIJ in the 73. The "batwing" isn't as pleasing as the small guard version BUT it's still cool.
I can't believe the prices you folk are getting great for. The Slick guitars are ridiculously expensive Downunder. Most of those things ship from S.E.Asia yet we, rather closer, pay even more on the price for shipping. It must just be traditional gouging.

you mentioned that before.
How much are they over there?
They're only a bit over $200 here.

And can you get around it by having a friend over here buy it and then 'sell' it or 'gift' it to you?

I think this one might be a winner. It's a batwing, but I'm liking it.

Fuck it I'm doing it. It's got an extra Burstbucker 3 comes with it and all the original case candy nonsense.

From Ebay they're $US 336.06 direct from Korea. With our currency in the doldrums at present (AUS$1 = US$0.68) imported goods are bad value at present - AND we make almost nothing these days. I've shipped a guitar from the US via a friend before and it's pricey due to postage and the fees now being charged at customs. they won't cop the old gift thing any more. I paid $100 + tax last time and they kept it for a month - including losing it in the system twice - before it finally arrived. THANKS for the thought though. No one in Australia seems to sell them and there's no listed distributor in Oz either. Saves me spending money I suppose.

All in all I think it's a sweet deal. At that price I really don't think it would have lasted through the night. I've been watching non-fucked white SGs fly off the shelves at Reverb for the past few days.

That looks like a really nice one. Hope it plays tidy when it arrives and you get it set up as you like it.

Are you keeping the Angus or getting rid of it now?
Was gonna say, you'd be better off waiting until he dies cos the value will shoot up... but he's only in his mid 60s and appears to be in pretty good health.

No-one is going to make any money shipping cheap $200 guitars like those to Australia, ray. We have a direct line to cheap Chinese ones though.

On another tangent I saw a FB post the other day by a guy who spent $6000+ AUD on a Lionheart guitar - I think they're made in Indonesia with ridiculous levels of ornate inlaying on the fretboard and "interesting" treatment of the wooden body - interesting to look at, not sure what they'd be like to play. Takes over a year to get one. Ridiculous shredder guitars.

The guy posted many detailed pictures and it was an absolute shite guitar. Unseated frets, short frets, misaligned pickups, bits of solder in the nut slots, scratches - all sorts of bad shit. He was posting as a warning to others not to deal with Lionheart as he's been trying to get the manufacturer to fix or refund, with no luck. It was appalling quality. $6000!!!! Indonesia!!! What are these idiots thinking?

Who wouldn't want one of these? 😄

I feel sorry for the guy, but Jesus wept, why would you do this in the first place?

Sounds like there'd be a half decent market for someone building decent quality, basic guitars in Aus.

There a maker in the UK called Gordon Smith. Manages to make guitars in the UK, but keeps the price down by making them super basic, no frills stuff.

Thanks. It's got a Friedman Classic bridge pickup. I honestly didn't even know Friedman had a line of pickups.

I haven't decided, but the missus didn't balk, so I'm probably keeping it....for now. :nyuk:

Totally. That'd be a good idea for somebody down there. We have it easy in the U.S. and Europe.

If it's worth about 2000 dollars though... that's a lot of extra shit for your new drum room that you wouldn't have to save for. Treatment, maybe more mics.. cymbals etc.

I'd be interested to know what the Friedman is like. It's probably a super hot metal pickup isn't it?

Yup, true.

I hate to say it, but I'm gonna need to do something Angus to jack the value of this thing up even more. It's just business.

Wait...I know what to do and we all win:
Kidnap him, drug him, while he's asleep take some pics to sell the idea that he's dead to the media, sell the guitar for a huge price to some mourning super-fan, then reveal that he's been kidnapped by terrorists, demand a massive ransom, get paid again, release him into the wild. It just might work!

Not as far as I can tell. A quick Google says it's about a 7.8k Alnico 5. That falls right in the range of pickup specs I usually like.
