Changing the roof to be a gable end, sticking a huge dormer on the back and putting new stairs in. This'll give us 3 new rooms upstairs.
Sick.

Do you guys have alot of burecratic red tape to go thru to do that? Do you have ot have an architect and engineer sign off the plans and shit?
Yeah, we have to get an architect to do the plans. A structural engineer to do the beam calcs.
They're then submitted to local planning to make sure we're not doing anything mental that isn't in keeping with the area or is going to blot out the sun.

Then we can let the builders have at it! A building control officer then turns up periodically to make sure that they're conforming to the design and regs.

There's one down the street from me and I have no idea how they got it through planning - it just looks fucking ridiculous.
