JHS revives Ross pedals
JHS revives Ross pedals
This was kind of endearing to hear. Mainly because Ross was based in Chanute, Kansas, not too far from where our future home will be built. And JHS is in one of the suburbs of Kansas City, where I lived for a big chunk of my life. I think that the brand is in good hands.
I was exactly the wrong age as a budding guitar player to know Ross as anything than an occasional pawn shop oddity growing up. It sounds like a lot of love and care went into the Ross and Kustom brands, and I love that it all happened in a neck of the woods that I know a little (and will come to know a lot more, for sure).

I know for a fact that the red Ross flanger is the best flanger ever made.
Rebel Yell
Re: JHS revives Ross pedals
I have several Ross pedals ... the red flanger, a stereo delay .... um .. an OD/Phaser and a 10 band graphic.
My first real amp was a Kustom bass rig .... a head and two of the 3x15 cabs. It was actually a decent bass rig .... compared favorably to the Acoustic 360 which was real big at that time.

Well that didn't last long. Only 334 unit sold in 2024
But, several thousands at the get go.

Re: JHS revives Ross pedals
there's a zillion pedals and a zillion guitars and a zillion amps nowadays and at some point there's gonna be a market crash.
Guitar Center was always a stupid idea long term.
Lowe's works because everyone needs stuff for there homes and always will.
But there's 3 Guitar Centers in Orlando and at some point you've sold all the guitars and amps and pedals the market can absorb and then only a small group wants more.
I think the coming year will see a lot of companies collapse.

I tried to buy a flanger or comp when they did the liquidation sale at midnight that Friday. By the time I checked at 8AM on Saturday morning, everything was sold out. Every single pedal. So their sale definitely worked!

Re: JHS revives Ross pedals
My guitarist used to work at the GC in Florida... I think it might have been Orlando, actually. Apparently, that specific location did pretty well because a lot of South Americans would fly in for an expensive guitar because it was cheaper to do that than to pay the full export fees. A lot of metal fans in Sao Paulo can keep a store running for a while!Lt. But yeah, a market like that is definitely an outlier. Same as a music city like Nashville or probably New Orleans even where there just needs to be a store that will have a decent selections of strings, cables, and other breakables that a working professional might need at 8 PM. But even Nashville can barely support 1 big-box music store. (our 2nd guitar center is limping along in a dying mall, and Sam Ash died earlier this year)
The model that seems to work here is swapping used, rare, and boutique gear between collectors
Re: JHS revives Ross pedals
There is a lot of shit out there, and the enthusiasts just at it all up. I think in this case there just wasnt a market for it, no one really cared. And those who did, the first few thousand, bought right away, then after that it just was stagnant.
Online sales is what has really killed the retail segment, I dont think it is because of an over loaded market, but I do agree eventually companies will close shop. Sort of like craft breweries did/have/are.

Re: JHS revives Ross pedals
they didn't reissue the flanger so that wasn't gonna happen

Re: JHS revives Ross pedals
Oh I was thinking flanger, but it's the phaser that they reissued. But yeah, they're all sold out on the website if you click on any of the listings.Lt. Bob wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2024 12:34 am there are all the Ross pedals on JHS site still available

There are a few at reasonable prices on Reverb, though I bet that'll change before too long!
