Putting a steel ring around a hole
Putting a steel ring around a hole
Just a quick DIY thing and I don't know what I'm looking for.
Just tidying some stuff up with my desk and board - I have a couple of holes that I've drilled in stuff and I want to tidy things up.
I want to get a snug fitting steel ring into the hole which laps over the edge slightly to make it really tidy with with enough space to get my cabling through.

You can buy purpose made. What size hole? A pic maybe?JD01 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 7:47 am Just a quick DIY thing and I don't know what I'm looking for.

I'll make the hole fit the ring if I can find what I'm looking for.muttley wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 8:16 amYou can buy purpose made. What size hole? A pic maybe?JD01 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 7:47 am Just a quick DIY thing and I don't know what I'm looking for.

Re: Putting a steel ring around a hole
Why steel?
There's a standard size hole for plastic cable ducts like you find on most office desks... cheap as chips. In my apartment studio I drilled a 60mm hole at each end of the desk and popped one of these babies in each. You can get various smaller sizes on Amazon if you look... "desk grommet" "cable collar" etc.

Steel? Can't help you there.

Steel, it'll look nicer and be harder wearing.Armistice wrote: ↑Fri Feb 16, 2024 8:39 am Why steel?

60mm is way too big for what I need - 25mm will be plenty.
Re: Putting a steel ring around a hole
This looks like it - googled "Desk Grommet"

Re: Putting a steel ring around a hole
Just search for desk grommets.
EDIT: I see you've done that already. I don't know whats up with my internet today but I clicked post for that about 2 hours ago.

ReallY annoying as I was trying to watch the cricket this morning and it kept dropping in and out but only on some devices.
Re: Putting a steel ring around a hole
Yeah, I just didn't know what to search for. As soon as Armi suggested it I found them straight away
Re: Putting a steel ring around a hole
If they are for cabling I would suggest using the capped ones as they prevent small items and dust getting in there. I have loads fitted around my workshop for various purposes from cables to tool wells.
