Leanora Washington Lost Her Wig Today

Post by stratmonkee »

Ok, this is a weird one.... for the past couple of weeks, there has been an abandoned wig in the parking lot at work ,for some reason I see these every so often (I work in IT at a major medical center Detroit area). Decided I would try to write a song about it as I've been struggling lately for subject matter. This is my 1st mix, per usual not happy with vocals but will see if it grows on me :lollers: Was going for a pretty aggressive bass guitar on this as well, A cross between McCartney and Squire was the tone I imagined. Feedback much appreciated as always!
ps that is the actual wig in the song pic

I like that bass tone, but it could probably come down a little, at least in the verses.
The vocals are pretty buried.

Fun song.

Cool, yeah, I had a feeling that would be the case. I am going to lower it during the verse on my next mix. I'm just a sucker for a slightly crunchy bassline that's not just root 5th all the time, so I tend to overdo it :lollers: . Thanks for listening!

I'm listening on ear buds - I'll give it a better listen later.

I agree with VHS - bass tone cool, but level is loud. Vocals are buried.

I don't know if this is because of the ear buds or not. But am I hearing the bass level being affected by sidechain compression somewhere? Its level seems to duck noticeably in spots.

I'll get back to it in another day or two.

Groovy!
awesome youtube comment of the day
Bill and Ted time traveled and brought a bass player from 1973, a drummer from 1984 and a guitar player from 1995. Now they're spreading peace all over the world 🌎

I did try and address the bass pumping, adjusted its level in the overall mix. Hopefully its sitting better!

Hey Ray, I seem to be kind of getting a hyper high end on my vocals, not sure what that's from? In the past I always seemed to have muddy/buried vocal tracks so possibly overcompensating with the eq. I tried to address it in my new mix, OP plays the new mix. Thanks for listening!

Cool mix. there's still some essing and it def. sounds like it's enhanced by the reverb/delay fx of the intro.
The only way to deal with that is to use the pre FX volume automation and carve away the S TCH etc.
Cheers

Man, I love what you do! Every song is SO different! I like the bass, vocals are very clear to me. Great song!
If I knew what I was doing, I'd be dangerous!

Yeah, I'm not hearing compression artifacts anymore. Bass level seems better.

The mix sounds good to me.

TripleM, Alison, RayC
Thanks for comments! Ray going to take one last cleanup on this, think I want to center the lead vocals a little more, they are panned a bit right , and will also cut the verb a bit /eq to address the ssssss :>)
